As a SaaS Vendor, getting people to know about your app should be one of your main priorities. I’m going to give you a list of 20 directories where you can promote your app.

This resource is about to give you the must-have directories to promote your SaaS app. I didn’t intend to list all of them. Don’t harm your business and waste time by submitting your website everywhere you can.

Read on to discover the 20 places where you can add your app.

Don’t add your app everywhere, only where it makes sense. If your app doesn’t fit in any of their categories, chances are, the visitors they’ll send you won’t be targeted.

Pro Tips

Paid Directories

You can find Paid or Freemium Directories in the list above. Should you pay? Well, it’s always a question of ROI.

paid-directories

I’ve seen companies do very well with Paid Directories and I’d advise you to give it a try.

If the overhead is too big for your current development stage, try to lower the price by talking directly to them. If it doesn’t work, just wait until you can afford it (an experiment shouldn’t endanger your business).

Industry-Specific Directories

You can find countless general directories online. However, you can also find some that are specific to a certain industry.

As an example, I was looking the other day for “FreeAgent comparison” (accounting software), and I ended up looking at the website FinancesOnline.

Adding your app in these directories is primary. You don’t wanna miss out on these high-quality leads.

If you can’t find any, think about opening one because someone else will and you won’t have any power.

Retargeting

Some of these directories will send you highly targeted traffic. You can Retarget them in order to make sure they don’t forget about you.

Quora

Quora isn’t a directory, so I didn’t want to add it with the others. However, it can be an incredible source of targeted traffic for your website.

Look for questions regarding your industry and add value to the discussion. It’s even better if you can add a small link to your website.

Why not Everywhere?

Why shouldn’t you add your app everywhere? Two very important reasons:

  • Traffic: you don’t wanna get hundreds of visitors who will never buy, you’re wasting time
  • Domain Authority: you don’t want to harm your domain in terms of SEO. Having a bad backlink profile is detrimental

Getting Reviews

Getting reviews can be extremely time consuming. It also requires your customers to take action and you don’t want to spam them.

Focusing on one review site at a time will enable you to build a strong profile and make sure that you don’t appear weak.

By the way, Advocately is a software that connects to your NPS provider (e.g. Promoter.io) and sends email on your behalf to your customer base. You could automate the entire process of getting reviews (or writing case studies).

Conclusion

Am I missing anything here? I’ve tried to give you a few directories that are definitely worth the time to add your app.

Try them. Experiment them and discover what truly works within your industry.

What results did you get with these directories? Any must-have I missed?

  1. Really useful, thanks for sharing!

    • Thanks Alex, my pleasure :)!

  2. Thanks for including G2 Crowd in your list, Pierre. What a great resource to entrepreneurs, marketers and others in the software/SaaS space!

    • Thanks for the kind words Daniel :)!

  3. Do you know any francophone directories ?

    • Unfortunately, most French directories will be low quality by definition because they can’t get a lot of inbound links (size of the French market). If you’re starting a SaaS, I’d definitely advise you to have a look at the English market.

    • Hi Morgan,
GetApp has a French directory you might find useful. https://fr.getapp.com/

  4. A great resource thanks for sharing Pierre. I like the mention of not wanting to get bad SEO by messing up your backlink profile.

I’ll share that just as Google PR was left in the dust to the Moz Domain Authority (DA), Majestic “Trust Flow” is now the industry standard that I use since DA doesn’t account for the quality of backlinks like Trust Flow provides.

So checking the Trust Flow of a SaaS directory can help you prioritize which listing to go after.

Hope this is useful as your article was to me–thanks again for the great resource Pierre.

    • Thanks for adding this to the article.

I think the Domain Authority also assess backlinks’ quality through the MozRank:

“Pages earn MozRank by the number and quality of other pages that link to them. The higher the quality of the incoming links, the higher the MozRank.”

      Maybe Moz could confirm this?

  5. Great post! Thanks for the share.

    • You are welcome Wilson :)!
